An Old-Fashioned Refugee
JUST AN OLD FASHIONED REFUGEE
I wrote this for a pantomime in Blackheath and thought it was relevant in today’s climate. It’s about the main character coming to Blackheath as a refugee. The tune is “Old-fashioned Millionaire” – nice Eartha Kitt version of that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeRSqekHh1g
JUST AN OLD FASHIONED REFUGEE
I’m just an old fashioned man with an old fashioned mind
Not sophisticated, I’m the sweet and simple kind.
I want an old fashioned house, with an old fashioned fence
I’m an old fashioned refugee.
I want an old fashioned car, an ageing rusty ute,
A purple V8 twin cab ~ Holden would be beaut.
I want an old fashioned house, with an old fashioned fence
I’m an old fashioned refugee
I’ll go commuting on the train
I won’t complain about the rain
I’ll grow rhododendrons in the yard
I’ll discuss philosophy
I’ll watch reality TV
I’ll even eat pie floaters – that’s not hard
I’ll work from 9-5 and then again from 6-8
If you ask about religion I’ll make sure I obfuscate
I want an old fashioned house, with an old fashioned fence
I’m an old fashioned refugee
